PUT HOUSE TOGETHER BEFORE 2024 ELECTION SHOWDOWN – AFENYO MARKIN WARNS NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin, who is also the Majority Leader and Spokesperson for the Elections Committee of the party, has cautioned the NPP against going into the 2024 election with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) without first putting its house in order.

This admonition follows apprehensions of some aspirants in the party’s just-ended Super Delegates Conference who are pointing to perceived biases in favor of an establishment candidate as well as brutalities against their supporters and agents.

These issues have culminated in the spirited protest mounted by a candidate, Kennedy Agyeapong, and the outright withdrawal of party stalwart Allan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng from the race.

Addressing the media after an unsuccessful attempt to cast ballots for the party’s November 4 elections, Afenyo Markin charged the members of the party to view the grievances as internal party misgivings and rather strive to help the party to get over the challenges.

He urged party members to help their own party by way of their conduct and reminded them that the party needs to put its house in order to face the NDC come 2024.

“We will as a party want to remind all party members that this is an internal contest. We need to put our house in order to face the NDC COME 2024. We will urge party members  to help their own party by way of their conduct,” Alexander Afenyo Markin advised.

Allan Kyeremanteng Resignation

Afenyo Markin disclosed that the party had accepted Mr. Allan Kyeremanteng’s withdrawal without prejudice, insisting that the three-time failed flagbearer hopeful has not declared his resignation from the New Patriotic Party.

“Mr Kyeremanteng has not said he is not part of the party. We now wait for him to bring us some additional information if he so desires,” he noted.

Balloting Postponed

The meeting which was supposed to iron out differences and cast ballots for the positions of the candidates on the final notice of polls was, however, postponed indefinitely.

The meeting was composed of members of the election committee of the New Patriotic Party, the electoral commission, the flagbearer aspirants, and their representatives.

NPP Grievance Resolution

The party, however, gave assurances that it had invited all persons fingered in the complaints of electoral violence to answer to the allegations leveled against them.

The New Patriotic Party also assured that it will make public guidelines it will be employing to conduct the November 4 polls to elect its presidential candidate after taking all grievances from candidates on board.
